About the Author

Viviana Ruiz comes from a family of immigrants. She was born in Medellin, Colombia. At the age of four her parents came to live in the United States. All her life she has lived in the charming city of Miami, where she also graduated from the University of Miami. In 1990 she started working at a Cancer Center. In 2000 she was diagnosed with cervical cancer. At an early age this cancer turned her life upside down.

In the process of healing from cancer, Ruiz discovered that she is a creator of her life, capable of surprising herself with the complexity of pain and the magnificence of a miracle. Alternating joys and sorrows, she has learned how to be an anchor in the storm and in the calm, the compass of hope.
